VAP News > 17th May 2022: Volunteer in Germany’s Historic Heritage

VAP can find two-week volunteering projects run by our partner association Open Houses in Germany. Each project includes a working day of up to 6 hours and a study aspect, learning about medieval woodworking and building skills, methods of conservation and history.
Examples include:
- Erxleben Castle and Moat, Magdeburg – traditional woodwork techniques (Saxony-Anhalt).
- Düppel village museum near Potsdam – medieval building demonstration (Berlin region).
- Jewish cemeteries – conservation of gravestones up to 300 years old (Saxony-Anhalt).
- Annaberg-Frohnau ancient silver mines – reconstruction of water works (Saxony).
- Weimar, Goethe’s city – conservation of parks and gardens (Thuringia).
- The Grand Hotel, Waldlust – restoring a splendid 19th century structure (Black Forest).
