KING STREET CENTER, BURLINGTON, VERMONT is hosting its 7th group of international volunteers. King Street is a non-profit organization located in the heart of Burlington that annually serves more than 500 children and families. Our high quality programs build academic skills, improve physical fitness, and develop the fortitude needed to succeed at home, in school, and in life. WORK:
Volunteers will work with our summer camp staff Monday through Thursday, serving children ages 5-10. Volunteers will assist staff with daily activities including prepping program spaces, planning daily activities, serving snack and lunch, and cleaning up at the end of the day. There will be opportunities for volunteers to plan and implement activities based on some of their own interests and/or games or activities from their own countries. On Fridays volunteers will work with another community organization for the day.

ACCOMODATION:
Burlington Friends Meeting House is a community building where volunteers will be living communally. Volunteers cook together as a group. Vegetarian options available.
LOCATION:
Burlington is the largest city in Vermont with a population of ~38,000. It is located on the shores of Lake Champlain. It is less than 2 hours south of Montreal or 4 hours from Boston, MA.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES:
Vermont is a small state and there will be opportunity to hike mountains and visit other areas as well. Activities will be planned based on volunteer interests and might include, local festivals, hiking, swimming, biking, etc. There will also be activities with members of The Burlington Friends Meeting House and informal discussions around peace and justice issues.
TERMINAL:
Burlington, Vermont. Burlington is easily accessible from Montreal, Boston and New York City.
SPECIAL REMARKS:
VFP Motivation Form required. Volunteers will be required to complete a child protection form when they arrive. Volunteers must enjoy spending time and working with children. Mixed Age Camp, older volunteers welcome!
NEWPORT SCHOOL DISTRICT and the NEWPORT REVITALIZATION COMMITTEE, NEWPORT, NEW HAMPSHIRE host this project jointly.
WORK:
Teaching and Community Interaction. The primary project will be working with Newport youth who will experience one-on-one learning about volunteers' homelands and other topics in history and geography. Volunteers will be expanding the world vision of rural NH youth. Mornings will be semi-formal instruction and afternoons will feature cooking, games, use of computer laboratory, etc. The school program ends with an evening cultural fair, presentations and dinner.
STUDY THEME:
World Culture and History, appreciation of diversity, tolerance of differences.
ACCOMMODATION:
In the local high school. Beds and linens provided.
LOCATION:
The organizers are experienced workcamp hosts in rural western New Hampshire, town population 6000.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES:
There will be several opportunities to experience the beauty of New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains plus one all-day field trip with the students. In addition Volunteers will meet with the local Revitalization Committee, Rotary Club and other elements of the Newport community.

New London, NH. Easily reached by bus from Boston.

Good English.
SPECIAL REMARKS:
VFP MOTIVATION FORM REQUIRED.
Volunteers must speak English. No smoking or alcohol at housing. Basic computer skills, including PowerPoint, are helpful. Must enjoy working with teens and be able to maintain appropriate teacher-student boundaries.
