VWAN Nigeria

Voluntary Workcamps Association of Nigeria is the partner organisation of VAP in that country.

Voluntary Workcamps Association of Nigeria was founded in 1963 principally to reach out to rural community and employ all resources at our disposal to elevate the standard of rural community. It is observed that rural areas are suffering from neglect and in most cases deficient of good support. Various efforts of the government at meeting their needs have not been sufficient hence the need for the organization to arrange young people to work together with the community to realize these basic needs. Some of the rural areas lack facilities like good drinking water, clinics and hospitals, electricity, good roads, decent places of conveniences, school blocks and recreational facilities. There are also no well-equipped or staffed clinics in most cases to treat different ailment, which often result to death.

The level of illiteracy in the rural areas is very high because they lack educational facilities like classrooms and school materials to be educated.

VWAN appreciate these complex problems and therefore mobilise the well-spirited young people from America, Europe, Asia and other African countries to parley with the community to carry out these developmental projects.

VWAN organises camps in some suburb and States of the Federation. These camps are Christmas Camp, Easter Camp, Weekend Camp and Long Vacation Camp (Summer Camps).

We have also succeeded in inculcating the spirit of volunteerism not only in our members but also among the rural populations where the project is executed. The result is that after the programme, the impacts of the projects are felt within the community.

In 2025 VAP has:
member of:
Volunteer Action for Peace, member of the Co-ordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service Volunteer Action for Peace, member of the Volunteer International Network Exchange UK
with the support of:
Volunteer Action for Peace, member of the European «Youth in Action» Programme

Quote of the day

« I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
