KNCU South Korea

KNCU is one of VAP's partner organisations in South Korea.

Korean National Commission for UNESCO - KNCU - was established on 30 January 1954, following the Republic of Korea's admission to UNESCO in 1950. Since its inception almost half a century ago, KNCU has constantly evolved to better meet the needs and aspirations of a rapidly changing Korean society as it interacts with the global community.

UNESCO was the first agency of the United Nations to define and develop specific programmes for young people. The principal objective of UNESCO's strategy of action with and for youth is to champion the empowerment of young people to ensure and enhance their full participation as equal and valuable partners in society. Accordingly, the youth-oriented activities of KNCU focus on giving the youngsters of today and tomorrow the best possible chance to express themselves and participate fully in social life. We intend to conduct several national/international projects in connection with international voluntary service, as well as global seminars and information services related to the culture of peace, youth participation, and cultural diversity.

KNCU would like to envision KNCU's mid-long term strategy in enhancing Education for Sustainable Development and emphasize its aim to encourage youth participation in local communities.

Quote of the day

« I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
