Work will be run in the little uninhabited island in the middle of the sea, therefore, is compulsory to be able to swim Volunteers will support natural reserve s staff in restoration of the flora with planting of new plants (this action is part of a thirty-year plan put in practice by Lipu), maintenance of existing vegetation (watering plants), maintenance of the protected area (re-building stone paths). Cleaning of the protected area (the area is subject to different marine streams that bring waste from the sea). Work will be done mainly in the morning and in case of wind or rain the work will be run on another day. Work can be tiring and hard due to hot temperature and Sicilian sun (hat and sunblock are compulsory).In the afternoon, volunteers will work together to create an event/campaign to raise awareness about marine litter and related-environmental disasters, reduction of plastic and the impact of incorrect waste management on seas.

PROJECT: Pian di Spagna is a rural area in which there is a problem with garbage brought up by the river. It is a reserve in which some garbage tends to be brought up by the wind and it is often problematic to reach all the waste by foot. Therefore, volunteers will be given the task of retrieving waste stuck in that area, by boat and also partly by foot. During the workcamp, we'll help the reserve with the maintenance of some green areas. Along with international volunteers, there are going to be also 5 local young people. Our main activity is the management of a hostel; moreover, we carry on a campaign against food waste and for the correct waste management. The volunteers' group will be involved in the following activities. Manual work: mow grass, repair and secure the fence, wood and stone steps, rid the path of trees and greenery obstructing the walk, fix dry small stone walls and pave paths with local natural stones, set signage.Agricultural work like hoeing open field, weeding, watering and planting. Forest protection work like clean undergrowth and forest floor, prune branches and plants. Volunteers will also participate at the popular celebration "Cuntaria Festival" at the beginning of august (a festival dedicated to the narration of Cilento fairy tales).

All volunteers will be accommodated at the school building, located in the centre of the town and equipped with mattresses, toilet and kitchen, where they will prepare meals, arranged according to Mediterranean cuisine. Stella Cilento is a town and comune in the province of Salerno, in Campania, region of south-western Italy. It's located in the middle of Cilento, the subregion which is the birthplace of the Mediterranean Diet and rich in biodiversity. It counts the hamlets of Amalafede, Droro, Guarrazzano and San Giovanni. Stella is situated in the hills, but not far from the Cilento coast, so don't forget to bring your swimming suit! With only 700 inhabitants and its breath-taking panoramas, it is a very exotic and unusual place to live. People are very hospitable and always ready for chatting… in a very fun dialect! But once you are here you can't miss a great cappuccino at Bar of Park, where the bar-owner will wish you "Buon Giorno"... definitely a jump into traditions and community life.

Requirements:
Open-minded, attitude to outdoor manual activities, positive artistic attitude, flexible to eat local food, ready to interact with other people of different cultural background, willing to share own experiences, flexible to live in simple living conditions. It's recommended to bring: sunscreen, work clothes (included gloves, shoes), swimsuit but also warm clothes and K-way, sleeping bag, video-camera.
Volunteers will be involved in cleaning of the Pollina river from waste (mainly plastic) supported by neighbouring municipalities (Geraci Siculo and Bompietro), and in the cleaning and maintenance of public areas, streets and old public spaces, build fences and irrigation of planting areas. They will work along other local volunteers and workers of the public administration responsible for green area.In the afternoon, volunteers will work together to create an event/campaign to raise awareness about recycling and reduction of plastic consumption and decomposition time within the local community of neighbouring municipalities. This activity will support the ongoing initiative plastic free launched by the Environment Ministry and already joined by the municipalities.

Accomodation will be in a school located in the town. Volunteers will sleep in the gym on inflatable camping mats provided. The school is equipped with a kitchen that volunteers will use to cook for themselves, food to be cooked will be provided by the campleader. Bathrooms with hot water showers are available inside the school.

During your free time you can hike in the mountains surrounding Geraci Siculo, there are a lot of beautiful walks. There are soccer and tennis fields. Geraci Siculo is very isolated, you can take a day off and go to Palermo or to Cefal u (to the seaside) with public transportation but be aware that there are very few bus a day and very often they leave early in the morning. Better to take a private local couch which costs can be shared among volunteers.

Since ancient times, Guardiaregia has been a place of transit and control of the territory. In the surroundings there are still ruins of walls, artistic artefacts, sites of historical value, which however are often hidden in the woods, abandoned, simply forgotten or little known. Under the technical supervision of the staff of Arteteca Molise trained by professors and researchers from the University of Molise and in collaboration with the Municipality of Guardiaregia, international volunteers will walk through the woods, hills and paths of Guardiaregia and 1. recover forgotten heritage and rediscover sites of historical and artistic value; 2. clean up the spontaneous vegetation where possible; 3. make photos, drawings and maps of these places. The aim of the project is to provide the University of Molise, through Arteteca Molise, with useful material for a future drafting of a map of the cultural and historical sites of Guardiaregia that can be used by university researchers for more in-depth studies on the heritage of Guardiaregia.

Accommodation in shared double tents. Please note that the tents are provided but you must bring your own sleeping bag (warm and thick). Guardiaregia is a small mountain town of 748 inhabitants in the Province of Campobasso, Molise, southern Italy. In ancient times it was a strongpoint of the Samnites and Romans. The current settlement dates from the medieval Lombard Duchy of Benevento, when a castle was built here to protect Campochiaro. In 1805 the town was hit with a sizable earthquake that destroyed the castle. During the Second World War there was a vast number of immigrants to Canada and the United States. Since 1996 the town together with the neighbour Campochiaro made up the natural oasis of WWF Riserva Regionale Guardiaregia Campochiaro with its caves, canyons and waterfalls that now is close to become Matese National Park. Beautiful walkways and viewpoints weave up, down and along the hillsides where you might be lucky enough to spot some of the local wildlife. In their free time the volunteers can go hiking at archaeological sites and / or natural sites, such as chestnut woods, natural caves and mountain pathways.TERMINAL: Naples airport. From then it is committed to the recovery of territorial elements of environmental value, such as an ancient wash house in the town of Vertemate (CO). Still now the local group is active for the defense of biodiversity manages a Green Station riqualified and used for environmental education to community. PROJECT: The project will take place in Chiaverano, a village in the Morain Amphiteatre of Ivrea (AMI). This is a geological site of great importance. The aim is to promote and enhance the region involving local people and international volunteers. All the activities are organized to establish a strong relationships and synergy among them: volunteers will form groups with local people (young people will be involved too) to clean nature trails and natural areas together. LEGAMBIENTE LOCAL GROUP: Legambiente Dora Baltea local group takes its name from Dora Baltea river that flows through the AMI. Our activities are focused on safeguarding the Morenic Amphitheatre of Ivrea area, either monitoring new industrial settlements or maintaining the natural balance thanks to volunteers activities. We also partecipate to national campaigns such as "Cleaning the World" and "Alps Caravanning".
