PROJECT: Sentieri del Monte Orfano is a project promoted by Legambiente Ilaria Alpi and "I Frattimi" a cultural association of volunteers. The aim is to clean and protect the moun Orfano's enviroment and his trails. During the workcamp volunteers can partecipate to Baffest, wich is a music and food festival promoted by "I Frattimi" to collect money to plant trees all over Franciacorta. LEGAMBIENTE LOCAL GROUP: Legambiente Ilaria Alpi promotes initiatives against the soil consumption and for the conservation of natural resources. We cooperate with other local association organizing cultural events in order to raise awarness about environment. LOCATION AND LEISURE: Cologne is a village of 7000 inhabitants in the middle of Franciacorta district, 25 km from Brescia. PROJECT: Alpe Dosso is located at 1600 meters over sea level surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. It is a place full of woods which are in need of constant maintenance. Volunteers will take care of pathways, woods, plants and different other things in order to keep the park clean and beautiful. LEGAMBIENTE LOCAL GROUP: Legambiente Lecco is made up of young and dinamic people, mostly under 30. The president himself is under 30 as well. The main activity of this Legambiente group is the management of an hostel; moreover, it has campaigned against food waste and for the correct waste management. PROJECT: The project will take place in the protected area of the regional park of Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli (MSRM); the volunteers will work on several projects aimed at preserving and restoring the natural environment of one of the most important wetland areas of the Tyrrhenian area. The San Rossore estate, a hunting estate for kings and presidents since the Renaissance times, was included in the regional Park MSRM in 1989, so being at the core of a vast protected coastal park extremely rich in biodiversity. The numerous species of flora and fauna (especially birds) can find shelter and peace in this oasis. Surrounded by Viareggio and other tourist resort to the North, and the major cities of Livorno and Pisa to the South, this park is of paramount importance for all the species tha LEGAMBIENTE LOCAL GROUP: The Legambiente Pisa group has been involved in many environmental activities in the city of Pisa and its territory for over 20 years. Our activities range from environmental education in the schools to the struggles to preserve and create green areas in the town and in its periphery, to activities of Civil Protection and the campaigns to raise public attention to themes such as waste management, public water and transportation. Legambiente Pisa has always cooperated with other organizations in order to make of Pisa a livable and responsible city. WORK: Volunteers will use simple tools such as shears, hatchets and saw to eliminate the invasive species. The team of volunteers will consist of 6 national and 8 international participants. The workcamp's purpose is to support the main activities of the National Park "Foreste Casentinesi" and offer to the volunteers an authentic experience of its daily life. The activities will mostly consist of monitoring and cleaning trekking paths and facilities, visitors assistance, fauna/flora signals advising, fire watching and water source conservation, restoring wildlife habitats. The detailed program will be communicated on the day of arrival, however it may be changed according to the meteorological conditions and to the organisational needs. You should have adaptation spirit and be ready to work outdoor with rigorous conditions of mountain environment. Please, consider that you'll have to walk a lot during the day, from the accommodation in the morning and back in the evening! The volunteers will get a short on arrival training and educational supervision during the workcamp. You will constantly be in touch with the Park's employees and trainees in order to achieve a deeper understanding of activities and the difficulties they face during their work. Volunteers must have with them an individual mountain equipment for work: trekking shoes, backpack, windbreaker and raincoat, hat, working gloves, flashlight (preferably frontal), water bottle.

Volunteers will be hosted in the mountain shelters at the Park s disposal and particularly in Corniolo (FC) and in Montanino (AR) guesthouses, structured into shared rooms with common bathrooms. Depending on the activities, weather and activities, some nights may be spent in other refuges or tents. Within all the lodgings, a fully equipped kitchen is available. Breakfast, packed lunch and dinners will be prepared by the volunteers themselves in the accommodation (food is provided by the hosting organisation).The volunteers will cook and clean as a team. Foreste Casentinesi National Park - Pratovecchio (AR). The workcamp will take place in a quite isolated area, but it may be possible to visit big cities during your free days (both Arezzo and Florence are 50km far). Nevertheless you will have a great opportunity to swim in a mountain river, make sightseeing around breathtaking landscapes, enjoy ancient paths and local gastronomic traditions of small mountain villages. Please, bring with you typical games, recipes, musical instruments from your country.

PROJECT: Prim' Alpe (First Alp) was a historical farm estate inhabited and managed by two large families. However, the estate was abandoned in the '50s and it was incorporated into the Reserve of Corni di Canzo. The Forestry and Agriculture Regional Public Service, ERSAF, took responsibility of Prim'Alpe and the main building was restored to preserve its original architectural features. Legambiente has been managing the structure since some years and have established a environmental education centre, hostel and manage the museum of the Natural History of 'Corni di Canzo'. Samples of the fauna, geology, palaeontology, and botany of the natural reserve are exhibited here. LEGAMBIENTE LOCAL GROUP: Legambiente Lombardia performs its activities on a regional basis, with more than 100 local groups. It promotes initiatives against the soil consumption and for the conservation of natural resources. The members are involved in activities such as raising awareness, information, education, scientific issues. The interested pathways we are going to clean are also mentioned in a participative project held in the last year by Carmignano Municipality that wants to give back the historical-social value of these pathways that in the past were the connections road from village to village in the area of Carmignano. Municipality of Carmignano is also very active in social inclusion initiatives. Local administration infact delivers hospitality to young political refugees usually coming from Africa. In order to enhance their social inclusion, these volunteers help the local community. The workcamps represents a very good help for local communities that often face some consequences of some occasional hostile weather or climate conditions especially during winter where flood, drought, and other conditions may arise. LEGAMBIENTE LOCAL GROUP: Legambiente Prato was founded in 1986; since then it has been engaged in the defense of environmental heritage, promotion and education on environmental issues throughout young students and the whole citizenship. Cleaning pathways, removing old vegetal items fromroasds and pathway its the first prevention strategy. Local community also offer its helps during the stay of the volunteers of the workcamp. Poggio alla Malva is a quite small village in a very nice and pleasent natural areas. Respect and willingness to integrate into a small local community are essential to join this project, As well as a certain tolerance to sunny and warm temperature reached in the summer.
Volunteers will be involved in the daily activities of the community which include taking care of the internal public spaces and outdoor space, the seasonal work in the garden, the harvesting and / or transformation of the fruit (for example jam or preparation of the fruit for drying) , bread making.The volunteers will also be involved in the restructuring of a haystack, a traditional structure of the Sicilian mountains that was once used as a shelter mainly for shepherds during transhumance. Porto di Terra wants to renovate the 9 haystacks in its land to spread the knowledge of this art together with the ancient workers, for later, host volunteers and guests participating in their activities.Study Part: Every activity will be introduced by a member of Porto di Terra. We will dedicate time to explain why we are doing what we are doing and the principles and ethics behind the work.

This accommodation is camp like in tents outdoor. The group will share all together an Indian Tepee able to host for the night up to 20 persons. A coordinator will stay with the group. They will have inflatable mats to be placed inside the tepee. The accommodation is beautiful but basic. There is not electricity in the tepee or camping area. Volunteers are asked to bring torches.Volunteers will use common bathrooms and showers with hot water that are located inside the house.There is internet connection and electricity.Volunteers will cook together with member of Porto di Terra following shifts and will be involved in domestic chores. Roscigno has an old village called "Roscigno Old town", named the "Pompei of 900s", a rural architecture, formed by low houses made of rocks, small streets and a main square. Other areas to visit are Certosa di Padula, the gorges of Calore in Felitto, Castelcivita caves, Paestum archeological excavations, Sammaro's wellspring. TERMINAL: Naples Airport. From Naples train station you will take a train to Salerno train station. From Salerno, go to Piazza della Concordia and catch the bus "PECORI" to Roscigno; bus is from Monday to Saturday 12:30,17:50 .
