Project summary: conservation and restoration of the environment and the landscapes in Dolomiti mountains, through hiking, public activities and workshops.DescriptionProject: Legambiente Dolomiti has been running the Environmental Education Centre in Lamon since 10 years ago. The Centre hosted several workcamps and summer camp every years, involving child, youth and families. Aims of the educational project are the protection, conservation and restoration of the environment and the landscapes through hiking, public activities and workshops. Volunteers will join these activities and they will take care of the territory and of the footpaths of the area in collaboration with the local population. Beyond that, the local group of Legambiente is doing educational campaigns about life style, Mediterranean diet and GMO's product. For these reasons, during workcamps, volunteers will discover local farmer's productions and the biodiversity of the areas. Legambiente local group: For 10 years Legambiente Dolomiti has been organising workcamps and educational activities inside an outside the Environmental Education Centre, in order to increase the active participation of young people and citizens and to increase the awareness about environmental issues concerning mountains environment. Moreover the club is concerned with some global-local environmental issues like sustainable agriculture, GMO's dangerousness, eco-life style and hand-made productions.Work: Volunteers will be involved in footpaths' maintenance and cleaning around the Centre, in order to make the way clean and safe. Furthermore, volunteers will organise public activities and meetings about the topic, in conjunction with the Legambiente local group, in order to involve the community. Accommodation and food: Volunteers will be hosted in a building, former primary school of Lamon. The place are set with slepping-rooms, a common living-room and kitchen. A low-flesh diet, according to the global environmental problems, will be a commitment for volunteers during workcamps.Location and leisure: The Lamon plateau is placed nearby the Primiero Dolomites and the Belluno Dolomites National Park. It is located about 80km northwest of Venice and about 35 km west of Belluno. During free time, excursions as well as meetings with the local population will be organised, in order to get in touch with local culture and former crafts. The work camp is organized by YAP (Youth Action for Peace) in cooperation with ACARBIO (Associazione Costiera Amalfitana Riserva Biosfera) and the local municipality of Minori. ACARBIO is an NGO engaged in the candidature of the Amalfi Coast as Biosphere Reserve within the MAB-UNESCO programme. Its activities focus on the conservation and safeguard of the natural and historical-cultural heritage of the Amalfi Coast, by promoting any kind of sustainable development with projects regarding the environment, biodiversity, tourism, local tradition, mobility, green energy. Among the many activities of the organization, international workcamps are becoming more and more important. In the past 2 years YAP organized with ACARBIO 7 workcamps about cleaning of green areas, the beach, workshops for kids on recycling and upcycling, building of natural houses, etc.. These projects were organized under the name of Make it Green and Make it Blue. As ACARBIO has worked these years promoting a more sustainable approach towards mother nature, we believe this project represents an opportunity to raise awareness about environmental protection at local level, and at the same time promoting volunteering, international cooperation and the involvement of local youth.
WORK:
International volunteers will work at the archaeological site of Villa Romana in Minori, which is a roman noble residence that has been discovered 50 years ago and it is quite well preserved. Volunteers will be engaged in the production of materials that can help have better accessibility to the archaeological site. The main activities will be to translate the descriptions and other materials in their own language, take pictures that will be used in a future exhibition to be organized in the center of the town, prepare a video book that will be available on the internet and smartphones for the visitors of the site. In this period the volunteers sometimes might also be involved in other volunteering activities that are happening in the town, working together with the participants of Make It Blue workcamp for the cleaning of the public beach or in worshops with kids in the topic of recycling. Volunteers will be engaged in work for 6-7 hours a day, for 6 days a week. For this workcamp volunteers will have free tickets for a trip in the beautiful isle of Capri. Participants will also have the unique chance to live the traditional celebrations for Saint Trofimena that will be held in Minori on 13 July.
ACCOMMODATION:
Board and lodging are guaranteed for all participants. Volunteers will stay at one of the local schools, where there will be bathrooms, showers and a kitchen. Participants will be asked to take their sleeping bag with them. The group will be responsible for preparing meals and cleaning the place. The organization will provide all the food that is needed. Public transportations are available for every days movements. Participants will be leaving together with other 6 volunteers of another workcamp called Make It Blue on the topic of environmental protection and that will take place in the same town.
LOCATION:
Minori is a prestigious tourist destination in the Amalfi Coast. It is a small town that counts around 2.800 inhabitants and it is famous for being an ancient vacation destination for Romans. In fact a well preserved roman Villa was found in 1932 and now it’s one of the main attraction of the place. This town is also very famous for its gastronomic tradition, being the place where the production of pasta was born and became an art. Of course Minori offers also a beautiful seaside, beaches, nice promenade, stunning landscapes, one of the biggest Basilicas of the area and its bell tower. Other famous places like Amalfi, Ravello and Positano can be visited nearby. Naples and Salerno are about 1 hour away. In this period of the year there are several events related to local traditions, art and music all along the coast.
TERMINAL:
Airport of Naples. There are public busses that will allow participants to reach the place where they will be staying in Tramonti. The nearest train stations are Nocera Inferiore, Salerno and Naples in this order. From the train station you can take a bus to the Amalfi Coast, stopping at Minori. Specific instruction on how to reach us will be provided in the infosheet.
SPECIAL REMARKS:
A project-related motivation letter + CV is required. This workcamp is recommended for people who love history and want to give their contribution on the promotion of the historical heritage worldwide. We are looking for participants with strong motivation, who are able to translate text from English to their mother language or others, who have experience in photography. One of the participant should also have some basic IT competences to handle digital material.

Legambiente Mondi Possibili bet on the touristic development of the valley and created in Anticoli Corrado an Educational Centre for children and adults who want to build a green future. It organises The Global Sharing day in Festambiente Mondi Possibili - http://festambiente.mondipossibili.it/ and several activities for bike mobility - www.magnalonga.netWork: The work of the volunteers will contribute to improve the environmental communication and operations of the educational centre and the village itself, through the translation of some promotional materials in foreign languages, support in the Museum activities and working for the conservation and value of artworks.Therefore, the volunteers will contribute to the creation of an environmental educational campaign in an intercultural way for children of Anticoli Corrado. They will strictly cooperate with the Anticoli's inhabitants in the summer event organization.Study part: Volunteers will learn how to repair a bike and to create a vegetable gardenThe volunteers will stay also with students of Cardiff university. Accommodation and food: "Il Casone"is an Educational Centre at the feet of the hill of Anticoli Corrado.Location and leisure: Anticoli Corrado is a village with less than 1000 inhabitants, 50 km from Rome, in Lazio region. Anticoli Corrado could be a milestone for tourism. This because of its proximity to Rome, because it is included in the Aniene Valley (that can be visited on foot or by bike), because it has a long artistic history, because it is a very nice village. During the free time it will be possible to have excursions in the Aniene Valley, Tivoli and to visit the nearby very nice villages.Special requirements: Volunteers must be able to ride a bike. Volunteers will restore two rooms of Villa Bona, a wonderful historical villa of the 18th century surrounded by a big park, situated in Carignano. The restoration work will involve: the decoration of the walls, doors and windows; removal of boxes; cleaning of the marble staircase and the wrought iron railings; restoration of the dark wooden paintings. All these activities will be under the guidance of a professional conservator. The restoration of Villa Bona is being finalized to use the villa for public events by the committee and local organizations.
Accomodation & food:
In a building with beds, communal bathrooms with showers and hot water and a kitchen. Bedrooms are provided with 2 to 5 beds per room. The volunteers are responsible for the cleaning and cooking. The organisation covers the cost of the meals and also the materials for the work. Volunteers must be equipped with a sleeping bag (or sheets), pillowcase and towels.

The town of Carignano (8700 inhabitants) is situated on the left bank of the river Po approximately 20 Km from Torino and within the Regional Parco Fluviale (park of the river). Its centre is of typical piemontese style, characterized by an ancient core with medieval archways and a baroque cathedral. The towns surroundings offer sites of architectural and naturalistic interest, it is also possible to reach Torino easily, as there are frequent coaches to the city. During the free time there are many exciting things to do such as visit the open market of Carignano. On the weekends it will be possible for the group to organise a visit to Turin (there is a bus to and from Turin), visiting the Egyptian museum, the cinema museum, MAO museum of oriental art, the Holy Shroud etc.

Project summary: In the heart of Madonie Regional Park in Sicily, the volunteers will renovate the ancient "pagliare" for the promotion of a responsible and sustainable tourism.DescriptionProject: the workcamp is part of a wider project which aims at raising the natural and touristic value of the Madonie Regional Park, through the creation of educational and environmental facilities and activities. The seasonal tourism linked to the winter sports will lead to the reduction and fragmentation of the natural areas with serious environmental damages. The purpose of the project is to divert this direction towards the safeguard of the territory and the valorization of the cultural and historic heritage as key to stimulate innovative quality and new economic trends, in respect of the mountain biodiversity.Legambiente local group: the local group "Francesco Lojacono" sar born in 2007 in Palermo with the aim of safeguarding and promoting areas with natural and cultural value through awareness campaigns such as "Salvalarte" (save the art) and Solidarity and Environment, for the fruition of natural areas by disadvantaged people.Work: the volunteers will renovate and rebuild the ancient "pagliare", straw buildings used in Sicily as snow storage. They will also do fire monitoring in the Park and some renovation work in the Refuge and the surrounding area.Study part: biodiversity of the Madonie Park, sustainable tourism and ancient traditions of Sicily, Mediterranean genesis and geology, climate change.Accommodation and food: The volunteers will be hosted in Rifugio Il Grifone, a mountain refugee inside the Park, at 1500 meters above sea level. Location and leisure: the Regional Park of Madonie, extended for 794 kmq in the north-centre of Sicily, includes the highest and most ancient mountains in the region. The workcamp will take place in Piano Battaglia that is the second highest Sicilian peak (1600 mt), after Etna Vulcan. It is situated in a wonderful natural frame: a wide karstic area in the heart of the Madonie mountains surrounded by an ancient beech forest. In the free time, the volunteers will explore the Park - also through sport activities - and the villages at its feet, with their traditions and community life. Project summary: The workcamp will revive ancient trails once used by farmers and support the restoration of an ancient ConventDescriptionProject: The municipality desires to start again the IVS project activities a few years stop, with the same will, the same motivations and above all the same ideal to respect the environment and the nature that surrounds us, in a calm place like Malegno town.The workcamp will be realized in 2 different areas: a Convent built in 1600 which needs some maintenance work and a little but important trail which passes on a Romanic Bridge on Lanico creek. Lanico is the only river who flows into the town center and run into the bigger Oglio river.This trail was rediscovered and fixed during the past workcamps: it allowed the connection between two different mountain areas. It lets memories resurface to when it was used from farmers to pass with livestock and wagons.Legambiente local group: Malegno's Legambiente voluntary group is active since 2005 with activities of safeguard and cleaning of environment. Among its main battles we can remember the one related to the referendum about the maintaining of public water.Work: In the first week participants will work in a convent built in 1600 with maintenance works.During the second week, instead, they will clean and take care of a little trail rediscovered in the past work camp.Study Part: informal training session will take place about history and local culture of hosting townAccommodation and food: Participants will be hosted in the convent, in mixed room with private toilette and showers. Project summary: The workcamp aims to discover and make available the old ruins, located in the middle of the Simbruini Mountain Regional Park at 1200m altitude, clearing the trails from weeds. DescriptionProject: Camerata Nuova (850 m) is a small town in the province of Rome, located in the Park of Simbruini mountain. The territory of this country is characterized by the presence of the ruins of the original and millenary country, called "Camorata", located at 1200 meters above sea level. The old town (also known as the Old Camerata) has been destroyed due to a fire in 1859. The ruins in addition to being a significant archaeological site is located in a pristine environment of great importance, in a natural landscape rich in indigenous flora and fauna. Local partner: The Association Pro-Camorata aims to enhance, improve and revive the archaeological site of Camerata through study, research, development and teaching of cultural and artistic techniques. It supports the protection and development of human potential of art in all its forms; the natural, cultural and historical local culture understood as any manifestation of the traditions, arts, sciences of the work, history, and in general any form of activity and thought.Work: Make available the trails leads to the ruins, in particular the original ancient paths shown on the Land Registry Gregorian. Volunteers will be engaged in cleaning and maintenance of trails under the sun and in hard condition.Accommodation and food: The volunteers cook, eat and sleep at a local school, 30 minutes far by car from the work location. Showers and dining place are indoor. Mostly it will be for the Mediterranean diet.Location and leisure: The volunteers will have the opportunity to explore the entire village of Camerata Nuova, surrounded by mountains. They will also be involved in local festivals and cultural visits, and get the chance to visit Rome at least once.Specific Requirements: Due to hard conditions of the workcamp, we are looking for determined volunteers, no allergies to food or pollen, non-asthmatics, resistance to high temperatures. Volunteers will take part in the walking of 330 km from St Thomas to St Peter from 7th to 21st of August 2016; they will hike from St Thomas Square in Ortona to St Peter Square in Rome where they will participate in a big event to celebrate, with all the other different travellers, at the end of the journey and they will assist the traditional catholic celebration of the Angelus, blessed by Pope Francis. The volunteers will be part of the group of Italian hikers who move from Ortona to Roma and will do the path with other participants, helping to manage some little manual work during the route and updating profiles of the event on social networks: twitter and facebook in their mother tongue. Please, note that the departure day is on 21st of August, after 5 p.m.
Accomodation & food:
Being participants of the walk, the volunteers will have the same conditions as other hikers: accommodation during the trekking could be in a hostel, BB, hotel or camping (to be confirmed few weeks before the event). The same is for food: the organization will provide three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) but sometimes it can be packed meal. In some cases due to specific issues of the program the volunteers could receive pocket-money for food. The participants will have the chance to see a lot of small villages and towns on their way from Ortona to Rome.

The volunteers should have some past experience in trekking and be ready to long hike every day with all the weather conditions (more than 330 Km walking). Preferable a basic knowledge of Italian language. A personal photo-camera and blogger skills are also appreciated. Sometimes the volunteers will be invite to release interviews (in English or with another participant as translator) to local media, so a good attitude to this public-moments are appreciated.
