Volunteers will assist in landscaping and visitor management. During summer months the number of visitors can exceed 200 000 visitors in Suomenlinna. We have plenty of landscape maintenance tasks in the fortress that cannot be performed by machinery but, instead, by one or more locations where the volunteers will work under the supervision of our gardeners. Landscape maintenance duties are performed outdoors together with our own staff. We will use participatory methods and unite different interest groups in developing new approaches to e.g. social media, interpretation of the Suomenlinna story, cultural heritage education and cultural heritage preservation. With this emphasis, we aim in raising discussion, generating new ideas, actions and involvement to make participants feel that they have a say in preserving our common cultural heritage and how is it taken care of. The results will be used to promote Suomenlinna s World Heritage status.
