The host organization Ikko is a modern, non-political and non-religious folk high school offering both general and vocational education for Finnish and international students and groups throughout the year. They also host special target groups such as students with special needs as well as young asylum seekers.
Work:
The school surroundings need maintaining so the volunteers will work with seasonal tasks indoors and outdoors. The volunteers can also join in some lessons of Finnish language and culture as well as make excursions to local sights. In this camp you can swap the hustle and bustle of city life to the winter wonders of the nature.
Accommodation and food:
Accommodation will be in dormitory, meals provided. There are possibilities for various creative and other activities such as skiing, skating, sledding and hiking. Sauna and ice swimming facilities are also available.

Punkaharju is located in eastern Finland near Savonlinna and it takes about four hours by train from Helsinki. The school is situated in a peaceful location of superb natural beauty, right on the magnificent Punkaharju ridge. One of the best known natural sights in the country, Punkaharju ridge is a natural formation dating from the Ice Age. It is surrounded on both sides by lakes and magnificent scenery. The area offers excellent opportunities for a variety of nature and outdoor activities.

The camp is organized by Nuori Pori 2100 (Young Pori 2100) which is a local youth organization. They have organized cultural activities for children for long time aiming at bringing joy to local children. Now they are going to start a small youth house in one of the suburbs of Pori in order to give local youngsters something useful to do.
Work:
The volunteers will assist in setting up a new informal youth house, decorate it, paint it and plan some program for the local youngsters. They will organize an event to tell local youth about international and intercultural work as well as assist in all kinds of tasks coming up when starting a new kind of activity and place.

The volunteers will be accommodated in a flat on mattresses. Food will be prepared together.

The volunteers will restore circus tent, circus wagons, exhibition room, furniture, bicycles, establish and keep a herb garden and do various other manual tasks such as garden works. The volunteers will also assist in their small coffee shop, flea market and other events. There will be plenty of work opportunities for everybody.

Holken camps will take place in the surroundings of two old (built in 1886 and 1931) schools in a small village. You can find old buildings, sauna, exhibition building, circus tent and circus wagons as well as a small coffee shop and flea market in the compound. The volunteers will be accommodated in a basic guest room and summer room on mattresses on the floor. It is possible to stay overnight in a tent also. The volunteers will cook and eat in the old school which has good kitchen facilities.

The nearest small towns are located about 20 km from Holken. The nearest lake is about 7 km and grocery shop is about 3 km. Inkoo centre with grocery shop, cafeterias, and harbor is located from 5 km from the camps. There are bicycles in the camp. The volunteers can also go to forest to pick mushrooms, wild herbs and berries. The camp hostess is a biologist who will organize one evening activity related to food from forest. There will be a possibility for camp fire and artistic performances as well.
