The volunteers will help the staff scientist from the National Academy of Sciences to make archaeological excavations at the place where the ancient settlement used to be and from where the town of Loev developed. The volunteers will learn how to catalog the findings and how to organize the excavation efficiently.
Accomodation & food:
The volunteers will live in the student hostel of the local pedagogical school, 3-4 people in a room. Two rooms make one unit. The showers and toilets are available per unit. No washing machine. Food: 3 meals a day, in the canteen of the pedagogical school. The volunteers will need to help cooking.
Location & leisure:
The camp will take place in a small town Loev (7000 inhabitants), which is 90 km away from the regional center Gomel and 340 km from Minsk. There are buses to and from Gomel. The town itself is known since the 11th century, though it was first mentioned in the chronicles only in the 16th century. The volunteers should be aware this is almost rural and rather remote area. There are banks, a post-office, supermarkets etc. in Loev. The wifi is not available at the site of the camp. The volunteers will have free time to explore Gomel and Minsk (if they want). We ll try to organize excursions to the local tourist attractions that are not far from Loev.
Requirements:
No special requirements, the work can be physically challenging

« I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
