Banepa (about 1800mt.) is located about 30 KM east from Kathmandu. This is a beautiful town surrounding by the green hills and panoramic view of Himalayan range from window of the camp house. Banepa can be reached by one and half-hour journey by local bus and then half an hour walk to reach the camp house on the middle of mountain.

There are varieties of work tasks in this workcamp project. The main will be environmental work in association with Saradadevi Community Forest Consumer’s Group. Volunteers will work together with the local people at local forest to help in plantation, taking care of trees, making fire lines, removing unnecessary grass etc. We have started to build a community house which will used by local people as their meeting place.
Volunteers also involve in seasonal agricultural work to help local farmer to plant and harvest crops. Sometimes volunteers may work at the school to assist in construction or painting the school rooms. We will explain in details about the objectives and activities of the workcamp project during the orientation meeting.

NIFC-Nepal arranges accommodation in private ranted or community house. A shower will be available at the camp house, but not the standard you are used to in your country. Nepalese daily food is Dal Bhat, like Dal (soup of lentil or beans), Bhat (cooked rice), Tarkari (cooked vegetable), is provided. This is the staple diet of the Nepalese and it is eaten everyday. The camp leader will try to offer some different foods but if you would like to enjoy your native meals please bring food from your own country. Volunteers will help to prepare meals in turns.

We are sorry to mention that we can't pick up all volunteers at the airport due to entrance difficulties at the arrival of Tribhuvan International airport in Katmandu. If volunteer stay at least one night in Hotel Encounter Nepal they are agreed to pick up to our volunteers in nominal cost (Rs 500/ Euro 5) and offer an economy room (Euro 5 to up depend on facility in the room). Therefore volunteers are requested to send their arrival information to us in time so that we can ask Hotel Encounter Nepal to reserve a room and pick up you.

The Thakalis, another important ethnic group here, are known for their entrepreneurship.

Location. Chitwan District is one of the seventy-five Districts of Nepal a landlocked country of South Asia. The district is in the western part of Narayani Zone, Bharatpur (the seventh largest city of Nepal) is its district headquarters. Bharatpur is a commercial and service centre of central south Nepal; it is the merger destination for higher education health and transportation of the region. It covers an area of 2,218 km² and has a population (2001) of 472,048. It takes its name from Chitwan Valley, one of Nepal's Inner Terai valleys between the Mahabharat and Siwalik ranges, both considered foothills of the Himalayas. Narayangarh, on the bank of Narayani River, is the main town with numerous shopping zones where people come from all over the district and neighboring districts to shop. Now there are about 40 Village Development Committees (each of which has nine wards or villages) and one sub-Metropolitan city - Bharatpur and a municipality Ratnanagar each of which has more than nine wards or urban areas. Chitwan is one of the few remaining undisturbed vestiges of the Terai region which formerly extended over the foothills of Nepal. As well Chitwan is the main destination for the jungle adventures and wild life in the world. One horned rhino, Bengal tiger, ghadials (long/short snout) crocodiles, species of birds and others, are the main attraction of Chitwan district.

NIFC – Nepal has been organizing international workcamps and other projects in Chitwan since 1996 in varies field of community development projects. Especially international workcamp schedules for nature and environmental, construction, renovation and others. In nature and conservation, international volunteers work with the community forest consumers group, it considers all kind of related tasks with forest, nature and wild animals.

Regarding construction NIFC – Nepal has started several construction works in rural part of Chitwan districts (Bhorle, Sauraha, Parvatipur, Rampur) where international volunteers assist it. School construction, community house construction, school playground construction or fencing the school areas are the main activities. As well the renovation or reconstruction means, cleaning lakes and parks, foot trial to village and others. Apart from these activities international volunteers may enjoy the time with school children on their interest and wills.
