Book the flights as soon as being accepted:
Please don’t wait for the Information Sheet, otherwise you may miss economical flights! In all workcamps in China, we will pick volunteers up from the airport, railway station or long distance bus station. So, we advise volunteers to arrive/leave China at least a few days before/after the project, also because volunteers should not expect so much sightseeing during the project. If you want to do it, please do it before/after the workcamp. It is quite possible to stay in a Youth Hostel, guest house, travelers’ hotel, etc. (4-10 US$ per night) together with volunteers from the same workcamp before/after the workcamp and we Chinese are very hospitable to foreigners! You can get a chance to do a home-stay as well. Why not? If you want they will accept you kindly and be your guide to travel around to enjoy the marvellous scenic sights and experience the diversified culture of the different ethnic groups of our country (More details in the Info Sheet!).
LinCang City, FengQing County, GuoDaZhai town, TengMieHe Recovered Village.
Project:
TengMieHe Hansen's Disease ex-affected Village is situated on a foothill for its red tea in Feng Qing county. This village was established in 1953 and has a total of 236 villagers (according to 2007 survey). There are 100 PALs, and 90 children in the village. The village has one elementary school with 2 teachers and 14 students split into 1st and 3rd grade. Approximately 18 students are 4th grade or above. Outside of the village, there is also a Mahaide Hope Elementary School that costs 15 RMB per week (tuition covers food, boarding during the week, and return trips back home). In January 2008, JIA hosted here its first work camp. Due to transportation difficulties, vehicles could not enter the village so it was not possible to construct a toilet as planned. Instead the main activities revolved around the children and educational projects. In January 2009, also the main focus was on education and on some simple farm work. In January 2010 work camps were held in order to focus on education, followed by improving the teaching environment and simple farm work.

Yunnan Province, The Water Mill Town, Tuoma Village and Tuoma Primary school.
Project:
Tuoma administrative village is belonging to the water mill town, Ludian County. It’s located in the north of the water mill town, which is about 12.5 km from the local government, and 52 km away from the county. Living in a block environment, surrounded by mountains all around, here we can find 1021 farmers. The income of peasants is mainly based on farming and animal husbandry. There’s a village primary school, there are 14 teachers and 586 school students in total, and it's 6 km away from the Middle School in Water Mill County. At present there are 694 students involved in the rural compulsory education in all the administrative village, including 586 students and 108 middle school students. The school is located in the dam area of the Liangshan region (Si Chuan Province). The students here have very limited knowledge and it is said that they have some common psychological problems. Since nobody has ever been engaged in activities in these areas, the teachers in this school are looking forward for our coming so that we can do some exchange.
