Project:
TengMieHe Hansen's Disease ex-affected Village is situated on a foothill for its red tea in Feng Qing county. This village was established in 1953 and has a total of 236 villagers (according to 2007 survey). There are 100 PALs, and 90 children in the village. The village has one elementary school with 2 teachers and 14 students split into 1st and 3rd grade. Approximately 18 students are 4th grade or above. Outside of the village, there is also a Mahaide Hope Elementary School that costs 15 RMB per week (tuition covers food, boarding during the week, and return trips back home). In January 2008, JIA hosted here its first work camp. Due to transportation difficulties, vehicles could not enter the village so it was not possible to construct a toilet as planned. Instead the main activities revolved around the children and educational projects. In January 2009, also the main focus was on education and on some simple farm work. In January 2010 work camps were held in order to focus on education, followed by improving the teaching environment and simple farm work.
Accommodation:

The school is located in Ludian County, 45 km south-west of the water mill village Miao Village Association, and it is inhabited by one of Miao Minority County. The whole communities are 97, 387 people, are in Hmong. Water Mill Village is located 2,400 meters above sea level, it is a high and cold mountain with bad weather, thin soil and steep slopes. The school and village were inspected in November 2009. In January 2010 were carried out for the first time school activities, work camps, mainly based in children's education and, apart from that visits to the village families were made and also to the nursing home to visit elderly people, and give them performances.

SiChuan Province, XiChang Prefecture City, YanYuan County, YouSuo Township, TaErDi village.

TaErDi Recovered Village is situated in SiChuan Province, XiChang Prefecture City, YanYuan County, YouSuo Township’s TaErDi Village. The village mainly consists of the Yi minority and currently has 340 people. The villagers are unable to leave the village (for financial, societal, and educational reasons) and have to face the fact that the village has low productivity, a large population, a paucity of land, and no medical security. Presently, there are 41 children enrolled in school, but the school urgently lacks teachers and even more urgently lacks funds. The teachers are also very limited in their education. The village carried out a work camp for the first time in August 2009 to mainly do educational work and teaching improvement. In January 2010 activities continued in the village, focusing on education, helping eight villagers to solve their problems of drinking water, and now we have a lasting and good relationship with the villagers.

BaJiaoChong is located in WenShan district’s MaGuan County and is approximately 15km from the county’s key city. Situated near mountains and rivers, the village’s scenery is plenty beautiful. The village was built in 1974 and has a total of 35 people. Currently, there are also 4 students (1 in high school and 3 in elementary school). In August of 2006, BaJiaoChong hosted its first JIA work camp. The volunteers helped the villagers repairing roads, building water storage facilities, and did simple maintenance jobs for the villagers. Later, volunteers from the nearby WenShan Normal University took over organising the volunteer activities. In October of 2008, volunteers came to the village once again to help with farm work and to tutor the children.

Yunnan Province, Lijiang Prefecture City, Yulong County, Shitou township, Taohua Primary School.
Project:
Taohua Primary School is situated in Taohua village. Shitou township, Yulong county. Taohua means the peach blossom in Chinese. The Taohua village is as beautiful as its name. Several ethnic groups live here together happily and harmonious. There are Naxi, Bai, Lisue and Pumi minorities living together in harmony. There are 164 students from kindergarten to 6th grade. The students come from 18 small villages near the school. Transportation is not convenient here. Some of the students have to walk for 3 or 4 hours through mountains to go back home in weekends. Each student pays 1.5 yuan for his/her meal in school, while some of the families can not afford it because life is not easy for them. The school has 14 teachers in total. There is a simple library which has less than 150 books in the school. Many newly hired teachers are coming from cities and many left because they could not tolerate the dilapidated and mountainous environment. The constant changing of teachers has had a certain negative effect on the students’ development. In July 2010 for the first time here, the work camp mainly features a focus on education (art, music, English, Physical Education), a rich knowledge of children's extra-curricular activities. We will also repair water pipes and do farm work. We hope we can make very good relationships with the students and teachers during this first work camp, and next time we hold a work camp here, we plan to focus on Environmental and Cultural projects.
GuiZhou Province, Bijie Prefecture City, WeiNing County, ShiMenKan Town, XinZhong Elementary School.

XinZhong Elementary School is situated in ShiMenKan town. There are approximately 140 students from kindergarten to 6th grade, with most of them being of the Miao minority group. Most of the students come from XinYing and ZhongZai villages, and often, one grade will have students of many ages. The school has a total of 8 teachers, 5 of them are Christians from the northeast, and 3 are locals. Many newly hired teachers coming from cities left after only because they could not tolerate the dilapidated and mountainous environment. The constant changing of teachers has had a certain negative effect on the students' development.
In the summer of 2007, we joined forces with a Hong Kong charity association to open the first work camp here. We built a football field at the school, formed very strong relationships with the students and teachers, and also went into the mountain villages to spread information about Fluorine poisoning.
We have had 4 work camps in the school; besides building the football field, we have also taught classes, beautified the schools outside appearance by painting the school walls, glazing classroom desks, and painting pictures in the classrooms.

Yunnan province, Dali county, Shangguan town, Yu'er village.

Yu'er village is located on the side of a mountain about 15 kilometers east of Shangguan town, Dali county. Yu'er Hansen's Disease ex-affected village was built at the beginning of the 1950’s, and there are currently 15 PALs living in the village, along with about 40 of their children and grandchildren. There are five people living alone, about 14 elderly people, and four children in school. The average age of the recovered leprosy patients is about 60 years old. The first JIA work camp was held in Yu'er village in the summer of 2007, the main project was road repair. The second work camp was held in August 2008, and focused on roof repair and improving the overall conditions of villagers’ homes. In January of 2009 the third JIA work camp happened, which organised basic classes and extra-curricular activities for the children in the village.

This village is located in LiJiang Yulong county, Liming township, LiGuang village. From the village to LiJiang is about 4 km. In January the first JIA workcamp was held in the village in cooperation with the Asian Green Foundation ShenZhen. Volunteers and Beijing Forestry University experts monitored the forest ecological distribution and growth. In July and August the workcamps will go on promoting more environmentally friendly actions, especially the classification of garbage. Furthermore there will be exchanges with the villagers, understanding the nature of industrial society, the economic squeeze, and promotion of an ecologically sustainable development. We will carry out features of education and through the volunteers and the children, inspire the interaction of the children's creativity.
