The town of Auzat, situated in a lovely valley in the Pyrenees mountains, has organised archaeologic excavations for several years, at the Montréal-de-Sos castle. It was originally built in the XIIIst century, on a rocky promontory. A mule will help you out carrying the needed material. A number of historical pieces has been found on the site: tools, pottery, coins... You will work with local volunteers from all backgrounds as well as with people under professional training.
Work:
The person in charge of the archaeological project will guide you. The excavation takes place every day; however you will alternate 1 day of work and 1 day off with half of the group, so as to get some rest. On rainy days (if ever there are some!) you will carry out cleaning of the founded objects. This is a work that is sometimes challenging, but quite exciting if you are fond of archaeology.
Accommodation :
In tents in the municipal campsite.
Location:
You will stay at the municipal campsite, in the beautiful Vic des Sos valley. A number of painted caves as well as castles are worth a visit in the area.

« I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
