The volunteers will fill the pot holes of Namiyango Ring Road (off Robert Mugabe Highway – formerly Midima Road) getting into Namiyango community together with local youth and other community members. Volunteers will also work on maintaining a small bridge along the same road.
LOCATION:
This project is located in Namiyango community where AYISE has its head offices in Bangwe Township, and about 15 kilometers from Blantyre City.
ACCOMMODATION:
The volunteers will be accommodated at the hostel of a nearest catholic church, about 15 minutes drive from the school. However considering that the project period is long, other volunteers will be accommodated at the venue in homes of the locals (allocated for use by the volunteers only). A vehicle will be available to take volunteers to and from the project site. The food will be provided throughout the project but volunteers will prepare by themselves in groups on a rota system.
HOSTING FEES:
- Airport Transfer (Two way transfer)- 20 Euros. - Camp Registration (Upon arrival in Malawi). Caters for camp preparation, subsistence and administrative costs - 200 Euros. - On Arrival Orientation (One day before the project start). Includes workshops on expectations; team building; co-operation; problem solving games; visit to the slums; detailed camp information - 30 Euros. - Contribution to Transport Costs (Return fare to/from workcamp site) - 20 Euros.
The volunteers shall paint three zebra crossings along the Robert Mugabe Highway. The road passes through Bangwe Township as such certain places along the road are too busy with school children criscrossing it. In order to prevent further accidents, we plan to paint these zebra crossings with consultation with the relevant authorities. Volunteers will also sand paint the ceiling of the victim support unit at Bangwe police station. AYISE built a victim support unit at the police station but the building is not yet painted and window panes are not yet fixed. If possible volunteers will fix the window panes too.
LOCATION:
The work site is right in the Bangwe community just a five minutes drive from AYISE offices.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will be accommodated at AYISE office guest house within the head office compound in Bangwe township. The food will be provided by the organization but the volunteers will prepare their own meals. It shall mainly comprise of African dishes but all the volunteers are encouraged to bring recipes for the meals they would want to prepare since some of the ingredients cannot be found here. At the work site, cooking will be done using charcoal.
