This project is open throughout the whole year for a minimum period of 3 months.
Project focus:
Capacity building and Women empowerment. HIV/AIDS patients & orphans support. Basket weaving from sisal to generate income.
Arrival and orientation schedule:
Volunteers will be received at the airport upon provision of full flight details and taken to a suitable accommodation for two days ahead of their placement at the respective project. KVDA advises volunteers to arrive through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi preferably at the end of every month in order to ensure that they participate in the orientation meeting scheduled to run from 1st-3rd of every month. The 3-day orientation session is mandatory and late arrivals will not be allowed as this would interfere with the smooth running of the programme.
Travel from Kenya at the end of the project:
KVDA will organise for volunteers to travel from the project to Nairobi and then to the airport at no extra cost. Every volunteer should officially sign out at KVDA office at the end of the project and will thereafter be taken to the airport by KVDA representatives.
Educational Tour and Kiswahili Teaching Programme:
The KVDA Educational Tour and a Kiswahili Teaching Programme will be held before, in the middle or at the end of the project. Volunteers who are interested should inform KVDA in advance for planning purposes. The KVDA Educational Tour costs 290 EUR for a 3-day package that will take volunteers to spectacular sites of interest in Kenya. A 10-day Kiswahili Teaching Programme costs 200 EUR and will cover an elementary language course and ensure that the volunteer can easily communicate with members of the local community. Interested volunteers should make the application before they arrive in Kenya.
Participation fees for Medium/Long Term Volunteering programme:
600 EUR for 3 months which means 200 euros per month.
We discourage volunteers wishing to stay for a shorter period of time for this often de-motivates hosting communities who wish to have a sustainable project impact.
What does the monthly participation fee entail?
The participation fees paid to KVDA will cater for the volunteers overall placement at the project including return airport transfers, administrative costs, project/community support, monitoring/evaluation and contingency. KVDA has a memorandum of understanding with partner organisations at the local community and pays part of the fees to cater for the volunteers stay and this is done in consultation with the host community. The volunteer is entitled to accommodation, meals, access to water for domestic use and will be empowered by the hosts to make good use of locally available resources to facilitate the placement. It is important to note the key elements accompanying the project cost and KVDA role to ensure sustainable project planning and its implementation at all stages.
Participation fees mode of payment:
Payment should be made in cash at KVDA office or transfer to KVDA bank account by the KVDA partner organisation. It should be noted that payment should be done upfront for the entire duration of volunteer placement, which means that a volunteer staying for 3, 6 or 12 months pays in advance for the entire duration of placement.

« I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
