ABSV is a young volunteer association and is keen to welcome you to Burundi, a beautiful fertile country at the north end of Lake Tanganyika and part of the Great Rift Valley.
Period of stay:
Volunteers may register for 2, 3 or 4 weeks during the dates shown above.
Work:
Volunteers will work for six hours daily from Monday to Friday. They will be involved in the rehabilitation of a community youth centre.
Accommodation:
Volunteers will stay with host families. Food will be provided by host families or prepared by the volunteers themselves. There is a chance for volunteers to showcase their own national dishes.
Location:
Buterere is a suburb on the edge of Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi. Most of the people are poor and they suffer a lot from flooding when there are heavy rains, as the suburb is built on low-lying, flat land. Access to the city is quite easy. Buterere is very near Bujumbura Airport.
Security:
The political situation in Burundi is not stable but this is not expected to put visitors at any risk.
Arrival and orientation:
Volunteers should arrive one day before the work camp starts to allow for an orientation training before starting work. Flights will be met at Bujumbura Airport (Kenya Airways, SN Brussels, and Ethiopian) provided ABSV is informed in advance. Visas can be issued on arrival but need to be extended after arrival (or can be obtained where there is a Burundi Embassy for the whole period of your stay).
Hosting fee (includes airport pick up): 150 EUR for 2 weeks, 225 EUR for 3 weeks or 300 EUR for 4 weeks. Payable upon arrival.

Volunteers will work for six hours daily from Mondays to Fridays. Volunteers will work on the extension of a communal school. Work will involve carrying stones, bricks, water etc. ABSV will also open up a discussion about conflict management.

Location:
Mbuye is a small settlement, known for its cheese-making, about 100kms from Bujumbura. The climate is cooler than in the rest of the country as it is located on the plateau.
