The association Vientos del Sur (www.vientos.org) proposes a first workcamp ‘Local Identiy and Global Citizenship’ in Quilmes, in the Arts Centre Identidad Sur.
In the year of the Bicentenary the start of the independence process of Argentina, we want to reflect about our identity from the perspective of global citizenship in the XXI Century.
We think that the best way to develop this initiative is to associate ourselves with Subir al Sur to organise together a workcamp which facilitates the development of one of our favourite methodologies of intercultural intervention, AccionArte.
AccionArte started through an intercultural encounter in Uruguay and currently is an international network. The local organisation in Argentina is Vientos del Sur, who in addition to this organises a network with Theatre for Identity, Mesa de Concertación Juvenil of the city of Buenos Aires, Banfield Teatro Ensemble and Centro de Artes Identidad Sur, with whom diverse actions are developed with artists and activists who bring forces together with a wish to create a better World. The methodology of socio-cultural intervention of AccionArte always includes internal training, exchange with the local population where it unites the realisation of activities for the benefit of the community and elements of the different cultures present in the project. At www.vientos.org/jujuy you can read about our participation in the first Latin American encounter for Theatre of the Oppressed, in Jujuy, January 2010.
In this way, we call to those who want to make part of an intercultural encounter which includes different instances of training of the participants and collective production together with the local community.
The program includes:
-A training in Identity and Global Citizenship. - Theatre workshops (you don’t have to be an actor to participate). - Workshop painting a mural (you don’t need to have prior knowledge of painting). - Visits of the city of Buenos Aires and Quilmes (travel costs are at the volunteer's charge). - Exchange with local organisations. - Organisation of intercultural nights where each participant can get to know the culture of the other participants and share their own. - Free nights.
As a product or result of these activities we hope to create together the following...
- The painting of an intercultural mural in the Arts Centre Identidad Sur, in Quilmes. - The collective production of a performance on the bicentenary which reflects our vision and ideas from local identity which includes the perspective of global citizenship and incorporates different elements of the diverse cultures of the participants. - A celebration for the local community where the mural will be inaugurated and the performance presented to the community.
The workcamp will also include free moments for the participants and will propose alternative activities for these moments.

« I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
