The host organization Ikko is a modern, non-political and non-religious folk high school offering both general and vocational education for Finnish and international students and groups throughout the year. They also host special target groups such as students with special needs as well as young asylum seekers.
Work:
The school surroundings need maintaining so the volunteers will work with seasonal tasks indoors and outdoors. The volunteers can join the winter activities and chores. Please note that this is not a traditional work camp and the tasks vary by the season.

The school is situated in a location of superb natural beauty, right on the magnificent Punkaharju ridges surrounded on both sides by lakes. The area offers excellent opportunities for nature and outdoor activities. The volunteers can also attend some Finnish language and culture lessons as well as do excursions to local sights.

The volunteers will have a variety of tasks and activities in different fields. The main fields are environment, Finnish culture and social integration. The tasks regarding environment include maintenance tasks and improving green areas by cutting bushes and tidying the park area. Experiencing Finland includes exploring Finnish nature, visiting farms, cooking and tasting Finnish food and getting a glimpse into the Finnish lifestyle and culture. Volunteers work on society integration consists of activities together with local youth and arranging an open intercultural event.

Location & leisure:
Loimaa is a small town in south-west Finland about 150 km from Helsinki. The town is small so the volunteers can move around by using bicycles. There iare lot of things to do and explore in Loimaa. In our group there will be volunteers from different European countries and also some volunteers from Finland.

The volunteers need to be 18-30 years old European Union citizens, who are motivated to volunteer in countryside in Finland and need the EU support for taking part in international volunteering. The volunteers will assist in preserving local cultural heritage. Volunteers are welcome to take part in renovating and upgrading local cultural sights. You will learn about traditional building methods and have a chance to do physical work together with local volunteers in a beautiful countryside setting.

Urjala is a small peaceful community in western Finland about 160 km from Helsinki. Urjala is located in beautiful countryside with lakes and forests. There are also interesting local industrial and cultural sights for exploring and some excursions will be arranged.

Volunteers will have an interesting two week program which combines practical tasks and workshops about different topics. The volunteer will for example do various environmental tasks outdoors, get to know local youth work, have common activities with Immigrant Summer Schools as well as make excursion to national park and other interesting places. The aim of this volunteering team is to enhance intercultural understanding through practical actions for environment.

Accommodation will be in the school dormitory in double rooms and most meals will be in student canteen, some self-catering.

The work will be to assist in organising a local event called National Old Power days which displays historical engines, tools and machinery. There will be about 20 000 people visiting the happening during three days. The volunteers will assist in practical tasks in arranging the event, e.g. set up a cafe, selling refreshments and tidying up the area during the event and afterwards. The volunteers must be prepared to do different kind of work in various weather conditions. There will be hard work, but also lots of fun with locals and other volunteers. The aim of the camp is to give the volunteers a chance to experience Finnish history, nature and culture and enable the local young people to meet young adults from other countries.

Oulainen is a small town, about 7800 inhabitants. It s about 100 km south from Oulu and about 550km north from Helsinki. Various summer activities such as swimming, swamp football, playing games, excursions to nearby sights and fishing are possible.

The volunteers will work mainly outdoors to maintain the traditional landscape and parks in the area. They will also assist in various activities when needed, for example organising events for children. The volunteers will also get to know the everyday life in the Finnish countryside. The goal is to increase multicultural activity in Anjala and its community and learn from each other.
Accomodation & food:
Accommodation is organized in a hostel apartment with shared kitchen, living room and a bathroom. The volunteers will get most meals from the canteen of the youth centre, sometimes it might be possible to cook
Location & leisure:
Anjala is a small village, 25 km from Kouvola and about 140 kms from Helsinki. The Youth Centre is situated in a beautiful area by the River Kymijoki. On the same area there is an old manor building and agricultural school. Volunteers can use the facilities and equipment of the youth centre.

Volunteers will have a chance to get to know various assignments and places. They will fix up local village house and museum by painting and decorating. There will also be some organizing tasks such as preparing and organising summer events for local youth together with local young people.

The accommodation will take place in a local youth house. There is kitchen and shower facilities and comfortable mattresses for sleeping. Participants will prepare most of their meals themselves in teams

This small town is in a very beautiful piece of Western Finnish countryside. There are lakes and stunning green nature in this peaceful area.
