The first Workcamp in Abu Hurairah took place in 2008 while there was a Japanese mid-term-volunteer staying in the orphanage. Since then, there where various volunteers for shorter times staying there. With the German Weltwaerts program, the first long-term-project started and enabled 1 year voluntary service that would offer more sustainability. There is a running waste-management-system as well as regular English classes and free time activities. This will be continued by the following Weltwarts-Volunteer. The Workcamp aims to support the projects of the LTV.
The aims of the camp are:
1. The main idea is to offer the children and volunteers a chance for cultural exchange and understanding, 2. Support the project of LTV program in the orphanage. 3. Experience and exchange the local culture with your origin culture for global friendship.
Work:
For all the work which is planned the involvement of the children is really important. Painting the entire building, repairing doors, making roofs for waste, making proper garbage places and all the ideas that come from Muhammadiyah and the volunteer. At that time, it will be the school holidays so the kids can join the activities! In addition, trips and picnics can be organised as well as international nights and educational activities concerning health, sustainability, waste…

Participation fee payable on arrival. 185 Euros covering accommodation, meals, transportation, and material for project, police certificate.
The volunteers will contribute to build a small toilet for this elementary school, and do some educational and sport activities with the local students (elementary/high schools) and local community in particular. The volunteers will also help the local community to prepare and participate in village s carnival for the celebration of Indonesia Independence Day that will be held on 17th August.Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the Javanese particularities. Some cultural visits are also foreseen.
Accomodation & food:
The volunteers will be accommodated in Indonesian host families (basic conditions, sleeping bag and mat needed) where they will also receive food.
Location & leisure:
This work camp will be held in Sulursari village in the Grobogan Regency, 100 km east of Semarang. Leisure Time: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit the Bleduk Kuwu, a small mud volcano, used by the people in the surroundings to make salt from its water. You will also have a chance to visit Purwodadi city and do some sport activities with the local youths.

With the German Weltwaerts program, the first long-term-project started and enabled 1 year voluntary service that would offer more sustainability. There is a running renovation project to support the daily life of the orphans living there especially to help the renovation of the kitchen. The long term project activities also include some regular English classes and free time activities such as art, pedagogical games, sports, etc. The Workcamp aims to support and continue the work of LTV project in Abu Hurairoh orphanage in Salatiga.

Renovation work in kitchen combine with activity with children (after school classes, art, handicraft, sports). Volunteers initiates, creativity and ideas on what to do and how to do the activity with children is expected.
